Responses of the University to the countermeasures taken by the Okinawa Prefectural Government during the period of prevention of the spread of infection for resuming economic activities (Okinawa Prefecture policy)

September 30, 2021

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff Members:

Risk Management Headquarters
(for COVID-19 Infection Control)
University of the Ryukyus

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all of you for your understanding and cooperation to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Following the decision by the Japanese Government to lift the state of emergency nationwide on September 30, the Okinawa Prefectural Government made the announcement of “Infection spread suppression period for resuming economic activities (Okinawa Prefecture policy)” (website translation service available) on September 28.

Although the number of infected people in Okinawa has been decreasing, the number of infection cases per population in Okinawa remains at high level in Japan. As we will start the second semester, it is very important for everyone of us to take proper actions. We would like to ask you to continue to follow the prevention measures against infection and take appropriate actions based on the response policy.

We will take the following measures for the time being and ask your understanding and cooperation.

〇 Lectures
As of September 17, please read thoroughly “Notice regarding implementation measures for subjects in the Second Semester 2021”, for students, and “Notice regarding implementation measures for each subject in the Second Semester 2021”, for faculty/staff members.

〇Extra-curricular activities:
For those clubs/circles which can take proper prevention measures against infection, some activities will be permitted. Please refer to the notice from the Vice President for education already sent to representatives/contact persons (or advisors) of clubs/circles for details.

〇Other student activities
??If you dine with others (including a social gathering and drinking party), please be sure to observe the conditions of being in a group of not more than 4 people, gathering for less than 2 hours, and avoiding “Three Cs [1. Closed Space with poor ventilation, 2. Crowded Places with many people nearby and 3. Close-Contact Settings such as close-range conversations]. And please try to dine with your family living together or people always being together.
Also, please refrain from going to a restaurant which does not implement proper measures against infection or comply with the request to shorten the opening hours.

〇Working arrangement for staff members
The working arrangement is currently based on the notice “Working arrangement of offices related to measures against COVID-19 infection” (updated on June 7, 2021). A new notice will be announced soon.
Please note that further notice will be given when we need to take other necessary measures.
